73 Media launch the Virtual Rugby Show
Like many events in 2020 The Rugby Show, a brand new event due to take place in July 2020, was cancelled due to the Covid pandemic. Lockdown restrictions saw the immediate end to live gatherings and live sport. For many this was a tough time. 73 Media were determined to serve the rugby community, bring like-minded people together during a time when physical coming together was not possible and when regular training or attending a match could no longer happen. The rugby community were missing the game and the 73 Media team were missing events (and the game!) The Virtual Rugby Show was created! Taking place over 3 days the event aimed to bring the community together, delivering top names from across the game of rugby to present a series of inspiring interviews, Q&A’s and chats discussing everything from the grass roots game, club level to international and careers that have spanned decades. And within 5 weeks of us discussing the idea, we went live! Thousands of visitors joined 63 speakers across the weekend including; Sir Clive Woodward OBE, Lawrence Dallaglio OBE, Ben Kay, Joe Marler, Brian Driscoll, Chris Robshaw, Sam Warburton, Martin Johnson CBE, Phil Vickery, Maggie Alphonsi MBE, Rachel Burford, Sarah Hunter, Nigel Owens MBE.
The Virtual Rugby Show was run in partnership with Dallaglio RugbyWorks and raised funds for the charity.
“The virtual Rugby Show was a great initiative, turning a postponed in-person event into a virtual community gathering to come together, to celebrate the game and raise valuable donations, awareness and new connections for Dallaglio RugbyWorks – A charity dedicated to helping disadvantaged young people across the UK.” Lawrence Dallaglio, OBE and Founder of Dallaglio RugbyWorks
“We are incredibly proud to have taken an in person event that couldn’t happen due to the pandemic, online, to create a much needed community gathering of rugby fans and players. It was an incredibly inspiring few days, and shows what we can achieve in an incredibly short space of time!” Ed Tranter, 73 Media
